The Project

Originally divided into three separate satellites, the boarding areas of Terminal 1 at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport are planned to merge into a single unit. Connected by unique access to the check-in zones of the terminal’s main building, this new space will allow for the accommodation of an additional 1.2 million passengers. For this project, Risk Control carried out the Safety and Health Protection Coordination (SPS) missions for boarding satellites 1, 2, and 3 of Terminal 1.

The current corridors are no longer suitable for the sharply increasing air traffic. They therefore had to be redesigned, and their services adapted to benefit an increasingly mobile clientele (post-COVID-19). This project was initiated in 2016 and completed in 2020. It covers 38,000 m² and represents a cost of 97 million euros.

The main idea is to facilitate the movement of travelers between the different terminals. This new space includes a central building near boarding gates 10 to 18 (formerly satellite 1) and 30 to 38 (formerly satellite 3).

In addition to easing access to the various boarding areas, this project enables the creation of six aircraft stands for large-capacity aircraft, including five A380 stands, and three aircraft stands for medium-capacity aircraft.

After check-in, travelers will only need to take a single corridor leading to their gate. Security checks will be streamlined, and waiting times reduced. Finally, the boarding gates will be naturally lit and enhanced with various services to make the experience more pleasant.
